Dr. Willie E. Johnson Ph.D
Dr. Willie E. Johnson was born in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Mr. And Mrs. Elisha and Ethel Johnson. Dr. Johnson grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where he attended public elementary school and first year (ninth grade) high school at Vashon. After his family moved to Pasadena, California, Dr. Johnson attended Washington Junior High and John Muir High Schools.
Dr. Johnson was married to the late Dorothy F. Smith >and they had three children: Earl Alexander, Omar Masekela and Maisha Enjoli. Dr. Johnson resides in Richmond Hill, Georgia.
Dr. Johnson attended California State Polytechnic University where he received the Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Political Science. He matriculated to Florida State University where he received two Masters Degrees: a Masters of Science in Political Science and a Masters in Public Administration. Dr. Johnson also received the Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration and Public Policy Analysis from Florida State University.
Dr. Johnson proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, 1963-1969 and on Active Duty as a Hospital Corpsmen, 1966-1968.
Dr. Johnson is a professional educator who taught at the college and university level at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for over twenty-five years. Dr. Johnson has also served in many Administrative capacities: Associate Director of the honors program at Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, Florida, 1978-1979; Coordinator of Public Administration and Director of Internships at Norfolk State University 1979-1984; Director of the Master of Public Administration Program University of the Virgin Islands – St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses, 1984 –1986; Director of the Masters of Public Administration Program Savannah State College, 1986-1990; Associate Graduate Dean Savannah State College in affiliation with Georgia Southern University 1990-1995; Graduate Dean Savannah State University, Savannah, Georgia 1995-1996; Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs Savannah State University, Savannah, Georgia 1996-1997.
Currently, Dr. Johnson is a retired Professor of Public Administration from Savannah State University. Dr. Johnson is very active in the community and has served on the Board of Directors at Greenbriar Children’s Center, American Diabetes Association Board, Community advisory Board for SunTrust Bank Victory Drive, President, African American Male Task Force Savannah/Chatham County School District, President of the Council of Historically Black Graduate Schools, Secretary Southside Kiwanis, United Way Campaign, Savannah River Site Committee and Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International and House of Hope to name a few.
Dr. Johnson is a professional Trainer in the areas of leadership/ management, cultural diversity, ethics, Team Building and Human Resources Management. Dr. Johnson is the host of the public television show Government 101. He has consulted for many public and private organizations. Dr. Johnson is an Ordained Elder in the Church of God in Christ and served as Assistant Pastor Bread of Life Church of God in Christ Savannah, Georgia 1995-2000. Currently, Dr. Johnson is Pastor of Holy Jerusalem Church of God in Christ; Superintendent of the Headquarters District and the Director of Christian Education for the Southeast Georgia Jurisdiction of the Churches of God In Christ .
